Abstract: This study is based on formulating drilling fluid from local bentonite clay. The local clay was prepared with drilling mud additives such as starch, barite, and potash to improve the properties of the local clay as drilling fluid. The properties of the drilling fluid produced were compared with the API specifications. Some of the properties that met the specification are the PH, moisture content while the viscosity of the drilling fluid produced from the local clay was close to the API specification. The locally-made drilling fluid could be a substitute for imported one which could eventually contribute to the development of country solid minerals.
